My house is clean all the time. Really clean all the time. Baseboards are wiped down, bathroom floors are mopped, beds are made, everything is dusted and vacuumed. Really clean. Which leaves me with a very strange situation. I have free time when we aren't having showings. What???? Yep. I have free time. It's taken me a couple of weeks to figure out why I'm so antsy. And that's why. I haven't had guilt-free free time in years and years.
So, yesterday I decided to scrapbook. With paper + glue. It actually felt kind of funny. Since I left Creative Memories last September, I haven't touched anything but digi stuff.
And I came up with a conclusion that surprised me. I'm not sure I like traditional paper scrapbooking anymore. I've known for years now that digi scrapping is my true love. But I LOVED working with Creative Memories traditional product. Loved it!
But now? Not so much. It was frustrating.
I started by printing out my photos. And then immediately had an accident with one of the photos.
I dropped a piece of patterned paper that had adhesive on it on top of my photo. See the white spots on that photo? That's adhesive. Sigh. So, I had to print out another photo.
That would not have happened with digi scrapping.
However, this layout only took me 23 minutes. I was totally shocked at that. Digi pages take me 1-2 hours. Easily.
So, wow, it's quick. I had forgotten. But now that it's done, there are things I want to change. The whole thing feels off-center to me and I'd love to pick up everything and move it half an inch to the left on the cardstock. It also feels like there's way too much product on here. And ripping things off leaves holes and tears things. So, it's done whether I like it or not. And that bugs me.
I do like the texture and dimension. Can't deny that part, though.
After I finished this layout, I had to do another one. That quickness issue really got to me. How cool that I could do a layout that quickly and have it in an album just like that!
And I like this one much better. It's so much more "me" than the first one. Clean lines, simple, focus on the photo and the story. And this one only took 19 minutes!
But then, I had to photograph it in order to share it. (I could have scanned it but didn't.) And there's a glare on the black shiny embellishments. And the colors just aren't true because I didn't have good lighting. Sigh. It's just another frustration.
In the end, it was an easy realization for me - I like digital scrapbooking a lot more than traditional scrapbooking. Truly I do. I'll always be a digi scrapper. Always. I'm not sure how much I'll use paper + glue in the future. Maybe it will grow on me again.
After all, that texture thing keeps me from throwing away all of my paper supplies. ;)
